Fall 2024 Ozzie Day Scholarship Winner
On November 20, 2024, Gael Padilla received the Ozzie Day Scholarship from the College of Alameda Automotive Technology Department.
I am extremely grateful for this opportunity from both Schnitzer and Peralta. I have totally fallen in love with welding and am lucky to have found a public school system that allows so many people to learn this important work.
I plan on using the money to buy more PPE as well as eventually my own multi process machine so I can continue after I complete my degree. One day I plan on welding handmade bicycle frames.
Thank you!
Thank you Schnitzer steel for choosing me .
I plan on using the money for rent and continue going to Laney to better my skills in welding and getting hands on practice and in the future get into some welding trade. Once again thank you.
Schnitzer Steel,
I would like to express my immense gratitude for this scholarship award.
This award will help me with ever increasing transportation costs. I am looking forward to continuing my education at Laney in the machine technology program. Awards like this make it possible.
Thank you for investing in the community. Laney is a special place that provides many of us in the community an opportunity to explore and grow in new fields that otherwise would be closed.
Thank you once again.
As a Chinese American, designer, and educator, I’m hugely thankful to Laney’s Machine Tech Department and to Schnitzer Steel for supporting my growth as a Machinist!
Appreciating the social and financial support in continuing down this path, and feeling excited for another semester at Laney this coming fall.
I just want to say thank you and I’m very excited to receive this award from Schnitzer Steel.
This will help out with school books as well as supplies needed in my labs
Thank you Schnitzer Steel for the scholarship! Laney College & Machine Technology has been such an amazing and supportive department.
I plan to buy a mill stop, 0-1” Micrometer and digital calipers. I’m so fortunate to be here. Thank you!!!
It’s great to receive this news.
You know, so many of our leaders simply don’t understand or care about how many of the workers that keep our tap running, our bridges sturdy, and our electricity flowing would have been unable to serve society in that way if it weren’t for the contributions of those with ability and wealth like yourself. So many of them assume that the poor like myself are just “entitled” and irresponsible by default. So many assume that if we as “the poor” just worked harder that magically we would spontaneously know (ie. to become educated) on how to keep society running. That is why I’m so grateful that you have taken the chance to make up for so many other wealthy people not mandating education as a human right on the level of government. Hopefully in the future that burden can be distributed between many of our wealthiest such that people like you won’t have to sacrifice as much.
Thank you this opportunity to be heard.
