Why We Need Your Support
The Peralta Colleges are known for outstanding staff, students and alumni, and the Foundation’s commitment is to keep this quality consistent while also keeping enrollment up and class fees low. State and local appropriations cover just the most basic costs of instruction, with little or no funds available to assist students with books, supplies, equipment, lab fees and other kinds of expenses. Approximately 70% of students receive some form of financial aid; many manage personal and family responsibilities while advancing their educational, professional and vocational goals.
CREATE A SCHOLARSHIP
The cost to attend a Peralta college, in fact, all community colleges in California, has increased dramatically in recent years. Today, it will cost a student taking 12 units at a Peralta college an average of $1,500 per semester in fees, books, supplies, and other related costs. Textbooks alone average $200 or more per class. That’s why our students--many of whom are first-generation college students--need the assistance of a scholarship. While some 50 percent of our students receive some type of financial assistance, at the present time the Foundation can only assist a few dozen. We can increase our support with your help. Consider creating a named scholarship of your own. It only takes a tax-deductible gift of $2,500. If you want to learn how you can establish a scholarship or give to an existing scholarship fund, please contact Mashariki White via email to mashariki.white@peralta.edu.

In addition to student scholarships, the Peralta Colleges Foundation houses managed funds. Managed funds help faculty and staff support student-related projects and selected extracurricular activities that build leadership skills. Faculty and staff can purchase essential items needed for their academic departments to enhance the classroom experience for students by issuing payments for reimbursable expenses incurred during the course of college and classroom business (vendor invoices, classroom supplies, etc.) To learn how you can establish a managed fund, give to an existing scholarship fund, or how to support our program grants fund, please email the Foundation staff at pfs@peralta.edu.

In addition to student scholarships, the Peralta Colleges Foundation raises funds to provide grants that support students in class-related projects and selected extracurricular activities that build leadership skills. These grants also assist faculty in developing new courses, improving existing courses, or with purchasing equipment essential to a quality course. Both students and faculty apply for these grants through the Foundation’s established process.

The PeraltaGives campaign is the faculty and staff campaign to support the Peralta Colleges Foundation. As an employee of the Peralta Community College District, we see our students struggle with the costs of tuition, textbooks, living expenses, childcare, and more in order to accomplish their academic goals. Financial support through payroll donations from faculty and staff members will allow the Foundation to continue to provide financial support to our hard-working students. You can make a one-time gift or a recurring/monthly gift through payroll deductions. You can spread out your donation with monthly payments by donating $25 or more per pay period (totals $300 per year), and you will receive a Peralta Gives ceramic piggy bank. Your gift will make a significant impact on our students.
