Natasha Masand - Berkeley City College

My name is Natasha and I’m a full-time student at Berkeley City College studying Business. These past two years at BCC hae been full of wonderful growth for me, from serving my student body in leadership positions and taking on large course loads that I never thought I’d be capable of doing. This scholarship will help me to continue challenging myself academically as I transfer into my dream school, UC Berkeley. When I received my acceptance just recently in April, I felt like all my hard work had finally paid off. That feeling of happiness was soon swapped with financial stress. Tuition, housing, clothing, food expenses and more. Even with doing everything I could to save, I felt a lot of uncertainty on how I would be able to afford it. Because of the generosity of the Peralta Retirees, that stress has been lessened immensely. I’m hopeful for my future and couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you so much for your support.

It is such an honor to be recognized for this amazing scholarship by the Peralta Retirees Organization. I have grown up with a very disadvantaged start, growing up without any of
my parents, so just knowing I’m able to earn an award like this is such a life-changing thing for me. It has always been my goal in life to help disadvantaged folks towards their definition of personal success, and I will be continuing to achieve this at UC San Diego, where I’ll be pursuing International Relations. This scholarship will help me financially continue my studies, and will forever be a sign of significance in my life.

I am immensely grateful to the Peralta Retirees Organization Scholarship Committee for awarding me this scholarship. It is a great honor to receive this support as it significantly
contributes to my academic journey toward earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As a Latina, I am especially proud to be part of the growing presence of Latina nurses in the healthcare field, who currently represent only 7% of nurses. This scholarship not only helps alleviate the financial challenges of continuing education but also empowers me to advance in a career that is underrepresented by my community. I look forward to making a meaningful impact in healthcare and am deeply thankful for the opportunity to move closer to my goals with your support.
