In partnership with UNIDOS US and its nation-wide network – including Puerto Rico — of 300 affiliates, universities and colleges, Peralta Colleges Foundation received a one-year $25,000 grant to create a learning community for a cohort of 30 first and second-generation community college students, ESL students, low-income, Latinx and mixed-race students who are enrolled in Peralta Colleges – College of Alameda, Berkeley City College, Laney College, and Merritt College.

Peralta Community College District is the 2nd community college district in California to receive an Avanzando Through College grant from UNIDOS US – Education. This program will give students who feel uneasy about being in college, and who may need some social support in a safe non-judgmental environment to allow them to thrive.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR PERALTA SCHOLARS — Apply to join a small group community to get the support you need with one-to-one guidance designed to assist students in successfully navigating their college experience. The program curriculum includes 12 workshops exploring topics on leadership, self-awareness, and college success skills and begins September 12th.   Upon completion, students receive a $500.00 scholarship to be used toward education expenses.    Apply today!

Who Should Apply:   Students who are low-income, first and second-generation college students, ESL students, Latinx, Hispanic, multiracial Latinos, mixed-race White, mixed-race African Americans, mixed-race Asian Americans, non-binary, agender, bigender, genderqueer, intersex, transgender, LBGTQ and other self-designations.

Student Eligibility  

  • Current enrollment in one of the four Peralta Colleges

  • First or second-generation college student

  • English language learner (ESL)

  • Low-income household

 

2022 Timeline

  • July 25th – Recruitment & Outreach Begin

  • August 26th – Application Deadline

  • August 31st – Student Selection Begins

  • September 12th – Campus-Based Program Launch at Merritt College
