Peralta College Foundation launches the Peralta Futures Fund Scholarship- a need-based scholarship

For the 2018-19 academic year, the Peralta Colleges Foundation will launch the Peralta Futures Fund aimed at supporting more students than ever before.

“This year, the Peralta Colleges Foundation is thrilled to be able to assist more students in their academic goals by providing more need-based scholarships,” said Interim Executive Director Nikki Lasley.

In 2017-18, the Peralta Colleges Foundation awarded nearly $200,000 in scholarship dollars to 125 students. But of all the students that applied, only 47% of the applicants received scholarship support. “Nearly 89% of Peralta students qualify for financial aid, and over half of those have an expected family contribution of zero dollars but unfortunately we just don’t have the funds to support all of the students in need.”

Recipients are current students at the Peralta Colleges, incoming transfers and high school students who will attend the college in fall 2018. The Peralta Futures Fund scholarship will be open to continuing students not eligible for the Promise Scholarships, which offers free education to high school graduates. Last year, 276 students received the Promise Scholarship support.
