Meet Tracy Camp: Honoring a Legacy in Mathematics

Laney College mathematics instructor Tracy Camp established the Ernestine Camp Scholarship in honor of her mother, Ernestine Camp, a beloved mathematics instructor who taught at Laney College for over 30 years. Born into humble beginnings in 1944 in segregated South Carolina, Ernestine excelled academically and was awarded a full scholarship to college. She participated in a master’s math program at LSU, supporting President Lyndon Johnson’s educational initiative. Ernestine fulfilled her dream of teaching at Laney College, where she raised her daughter Tracy. Tracy, now occupying her mother’s old office, proudly continues her mother’s legacy. The Ernestine Camp Scholarship supports students planning to enter careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics).
