Marithza

Communications/Graphic Designer, Berkeley City College

PERALTA PROUD

Background

Marithza Quiroz is a graphic artist with experience in branding and illustration. Marithza moved to the United States from Sonora, Mexico at the age of 17. Later they moved to the Bay Area in pursuit of meaningful opportunities.

As a non-traditional student, Marithza has shown tremendous resilience, patience and work ethic in navigating systems of higher education, from their time at Berkeley City College and their undergraduate years at UC Berkeley to now as an M.S. graduate at Stanford University’s Learning Design and Technology program.

Passionate about working at the intersection of media, technology, design and education, Marithza has built on their career to inspire and create pathways for other transfer students  like themself.

In 2020, Marithza was among UC Berkeley students, faculty and staff to officially celebrate the opening of the historic Robert D. Hass Undocumented Community Resource Center.

“Every morning, I would see the UC Berkeley campus through the morning fog,” recounted Marithza. ‘Maybe one day,’ I would say to myself and keep walking. I imagine people looking at it from far away, and really wondering if there is a place for them here. And my hope is that they know, without a doubt the answer is ‘Yes, you belong here. This space is for you and is waiting for you’.”
