Brian Guzman Awarded 2023 Ozzie Day Scholarship

Male student receives envelope with scholarship award check from auto tech instructor

Brian Guzman is an Oakland native who grew up watching his dad fix family cars and helping out in any way he could. When Brian graduated from high school, he enrolled in Auto Technology classes at COA because he heard from friends that COA had the best Auto Tech classes in the area. After completing two automotive certificates, he got a job working at an independent repair shop in Berkeley. He continued to take Atech classes at COA at the same time. As a result of his dedication and hard work, he’s already been promoted from “shop assistant” to “technician”. Someday, he hopes to open a shop of his own.

The Ozzie Day Scholarship is a $750 scholarship, which is awarded by the Atech Department to the student with the highest grade point average and the most units in the Atech Program. The scholarship was set up in memory of Ozzie Day, the founder of Automotive Engineering and a long-time member of the COA Automotive Advisory Committee.
